Raavana

There was once a big guy with a lot of heads. On a particular day when the combined grey matter of all his heads were in resting stage, he unceremoniously kidnapped a married woman and whisked her off to his exotic land. He regretted his decision pretty soon. For he paid for it with all his heads rolled off his proud and arrogant neck.

The once mighty Raavana is paying for it every year since. As thousands of years later, people still find it entertaining to see his head blasted off with crackers. Amidst festivities and distribution of sweets.

In the very same place as the festivities, thousands of women are being whisked off unceremoniously every day. Putting even the mighty Raavava to shame! But the modern Raavana walks tall with his proud and arrogant head still intact on his head. The wails of the outraged women notwithstanding.

Wonder when these Raavanas will pay for their sins? Wonder why this lopsided justice? Wonder…?

  5. It's the vicious circle of complaining, we blame the government, the authority, the police. We talk about it and then we forget about doing anything about until another situation puts into similar rage

    1. vicious circle it is!

at most places in north india, an effigy of raavana is burnt to signify good triumphing over evil....i wondered, with a nation so obsessed with proving this point, why do crimes against women still continue? that was the thought behind this post...

  10. Short and to-the point post! Karma is a bitch, and made sure Ravana gets burnt, year after year. These evil people will also pay for their sins, sooner or later.

  11. Yeah.. it is indeed a sad state of affairs. People are content blowing the heads of someone who doesn’t (or didn’t) exist and they celebrate it as destruction of evil when evil resides under their nose and even inside their own hearts. Wonder when all this will change and when people will realize and stand against real evil and real Ravanas. Very well written. :)

  12. hmmm well what ravan did was in anger and all that , he had someone he wanted to take revenge from and Sita was There, he did not do this to any other women.. But todays Ravan's dont even leave the women in their own house so Calling then Ravan will be actually letting them off easier ..
